Olympia WA - Find Out How I Spent The Day In This Great City

A Day In Olympia

Whether you are planning a trip alone, or you plan on spending time with the family, there are plenty of choices to choose from in Olympia. Olympia is well known for its astonishing beauty, a night life catered to younger people, and being the capital of Washington. So, step outside the hotel room and get your cameras ready, because we are taking you on a journey to some of most exciting places to see in Olympia.

Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge

Without a doubt, one of the more quiet and pleasant places to go and take in all of what mother nature has to offer. People who have been here love it and keep coming back thanks to the easy access in the way the refuge is put together.

It is home to more than three thousand acres consisting of beautiful salt and freshwater marshes. The forest is full of different habitat, that if you blink for one moment you might miss something truly astonishing. Bird lovers frequent Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge for the abundance of birds stopping for a rest or tending to their nest. A place that'll make you appreciate what it has to offer.

Show your children the tall and wondrous trees, or take a romantic stroll along the clear paths of Nisqually's trails. This wildlife refuge tops one of the best places to visit while you're on your trip in Olympia.

Monarch Sculpture Park

Olympia is known for it's artistic presence and background. This park demonstrates the city's passion to exude that passion in a very intricate fashion. Friendly to all ages, take the family out to see an enthralling and unique collection of amazingly chiseled sculptures.
Described as a "contemporary" outdoor park, Monarch is the home of over 100 sculptures and a center for different arts.
While you are there, make sure you check out the "Panoramio," a neat exhibit of three people stacked upon each other while on a bicycle. After you snap a few photos of that sculpture---sooth yourself to the mellow tones and calming tones created by the sculptural hands of "Sound Garden."
It doesn't stop there either, you will have the opportunity to take in the fun and humorous "Oversized Pick Up Sticks." A collection of coloring giant sticks being grasped by an equally large hand.
Finally, cap off your trip to Monarch by checking out the amazing bird and butterfly garden.

Hands On Children's Museum

This place is a must go if you are bringing along your children. The variety of activities and programs that the museum offers is astonishing. Take your children and encourage them to test their skills at the "Adventurous Rock-wall Climb."
The Hands on children's museum has fun for everyone, and is built for excitement and energetic children. They have days for watching the Solar Universe. And, if you need a break from the little one's, the museum even has something for the parents called the "parents night out."

Honorable Mention: Thornewood Castle

According to a friend, this place closed, which is a huge shame. If you have seen the Stephen King movie "Rose Red," this place was actually used for the location. This place carried a deep and dark mystique to it, where mystery and paranormal seekers used to gather to track down haunted activity on the estate. Aside from that, it had visually stimulating statues, scenic sunken gardens, and much more. Unfortunately, now it has been made for a Bed and Breakfast. Perfect, if you want to find out for yourself, while getting top notch food and lodging.

Chill and Eat

If you are hungry, or it has been a hard week, there are plenty of places in the city to grab a bite and have a beer. Have a burger at Ram Restaurant and Brewery, and then washing it down with a cold one at Paulie G's Sport Bar. Your options are full, so bring some cash because there is plenty of fine dining, sports bars, and pubs.

Olympia truly has everything for everyone, and there is much more that didn't even make the list. You can appease any of your entertainment needs from just taking a look at any of the options above, while keeping it affordable and accessible. Olympia has deemed by many as the hub for eccentric art and good music, as well as the home for when the legendary rock band, Nirvana first banded together. Take in all the views, entertainment and fun that Olympia has to offer.
